The Green Reflectors
Save Christmas

Written by
Holly Patterson

Illustrations by Rebecca Martin-Warr

Starring Kyle and Aaron Furlotte of
The Green Reflectors

‘Twas the week before Christmas,
And all through the land
The people were listening
To a certain surf band.

Their album release
was a massive success;
The Green Reflectors hoped
It was time for a rest.

Kyle and Aaron
Had just settled in
To talk about
What a great year it had been.

The record, the merch,
and the shows they’d been in;
The trip to Toronto,
And the Surf Battle win.

The guys had just finished
Their eggnog and cookies,
So they went to the store
To pick up some more goodies.

On their way back
Their van sputtered and died,
And they ended up stuck
On the snowy road side!

“Well this is just great!”
Said Aaron sarcastically.
“We’ll never get home!”
Replied Kyle dramatically.

They sat in their van
To keep themselves warm,
When right there and then
It had started to storm!

Through the snowflakes they heard
A faint Christmas jingle,
And they knew at once
That it must be Kris Kringle.

“Santa!” they cried
As they looked at their saviour.
“No time for that boys,
I need a huge favour!”

Santa explained
That the elves were stressed out;
Production had stopped!
Christmas Eve was in doubt!

“What they really need guys
Is to have lots of fun.
They need to let loose
Or Christmas is done!”

“We know what to do!”
The guys said with a smile.
“But Santa, we’re not elves!”
Added Aaron and Kyle.

“That my dear boys
Is not hard to fix.”
Santa then gave his fingers
A couple of clicks.

When the boys looked down
They had changed from themselves.
They were humans no more;
They were now Christmas Elves!

Unlike the Elves
who were usually in red,
The bandmates were
covered in green; toe to head!

St. Nick was already
On top of his sleigh,
So the guys hopped in
And were then on their way.

They had a short pitstop
To grab all their gear,
Then The Green Reflectors were off
To spread holiday cheer!

When they arrived in the north,
They set up in the square.
Santa gathered the Elves
And led them all there.

When the Elves realized
They were there for a show,
Their gloomy elf faces
Started to glow!

And then when the Elves
Started dancing in sync,
Santa looked at the band
And he gave them a wink.

He knew that the Elves
Would be feeling much better,
Now that they’d heard
From The Green Reflectors.

When the show ended
The Elves went on their way
Back to the workshop
To complete the work day.

Santa looked at the boys
And became a bit sappy.
“It’s been years
Since the Elves were that happy!”

“It was our pleasure!”
Said Aaron and Kyle.
“Seeing them happy
Was completely worthwhile!”

Santa then loaded them
Back on his sleigh,
And thanked them again
For saving the day.

He brought them straight back
To their van on the road
And helped them out
With their gear to unload.

“But Santa, the engine,
It won't turn over!”
“Something has changed since the
last time you drove ‘er.”

Aaron started the van
And it rumbled alive.
It looked like the boys
Could continue to drive!

With another wink
Santa went on his way,
And the boys went on home
To await Christmas Day.
